Is coffee in the Pyramid?

Food - I consider coffee / caffeine to be a part of the daily required food groups. I'm sure that the FDA would not agree with this, or they would have change the food Pyramid. That said, I don't think I am the only one to "espresso" this sediment. If you listen to people or visit your local coffee shop, it is very evident that caffeine is a main stay in their daily diet. However, I don't think we "fully charged" people all started out with a love for coffee. I have heard many people say that they didn't like coffee when they first started drinking it. They started drinking it out of necessity to stay up late and cram for a test, they need it to wake up in the morning, and they need it to make it over the mid-day slump. So we forced ourselves to drink it and as we drank it, we repeated the mantra: I will learn to like it (I did.). Well, guess what? We're hooked now, like it or not. On the perky side, if you haven't started drinking coffee, not much force is needed. With all the new "dessert" like drinks out there, that don't even taste much like coffee, it is easier to like. There are side effects associated with some of these drinks -- weight gain!

A lot of us have turned into "coffee snobs", myself included. It started out of convenience and turned into a desire for quality coffee; we have taken coffee drinking out of the home and into the nearby coffee shops, where we don't just get a cup of coffee, but an absolutely defining sense of self: Tall. Decaf. Cappuccino. It's a place where everyone knows your name and the Barista knows your daily drink. We walk away feeling as if we "belong."

On the pyramid, each color represents a different food group:
Orange: grains
Green: vegetables
Red: fruits
Blue: dairy and calcium-rich foods
Purple: proteins (meats, beans, and fish)
Yellow: fats, oils and sweets (discretionary calories)

Oh look, they did change the Pyramid! Yellow covers sweets/discretionary calories. Pour me another cup of Jo!

Dish - Petters update: Petters sits in jail, mordified, yet hopeful!
Hopeman, Petters attorney, said Petters told him "Nothing the government does to him will cause more pain than the loss of his son John four years ago when he was murdered in Italy."
Hopeman also released a letter written by Petters' father to Bishop Dennis Schnurr of Duluth over a sermon at a Catholic church in Grand Marais in which the pastor referred to Tom Petters by name as someone who had stolen millions from innocent people.
Fredric Petters was attending church at the time. "I never expected to hear such a falsehood from the pulpit of the church that I love," the elder Petters wrote.

I think we can all agree with Tom Petters, nothing could be more painful than to lose a child. And for his father to have to listen to alegations made about his son, must be pretty painful as well.
