Ohio has nothing on us

Food - "By definition the kitchen is a room used for food preparation that is typically equipped with a stove, a sink for cleaning food and dish washing, and cabinets and refrigerators for storing food and equipment." said, about.com. The intent of the kitchen was purely a place to prepare food for our families, but oh how times have changed. From the modest kitchens of days gone by to the modern conveniences of 2008. It wasn't until the post-civil war that the majority of kitchen appliances were invented. People no longer had servants, and housewives were alone in the kitchen and needed culinary help. Plus the invention of electricity spurred the technology of labor saving appliances along.
We "Baby Boomers" are the benefactor of all those inventions, plus many more that have been invented recently. I find myself elated with pure joy from all the trinkets and gadgets available today, that make our lives in the kitchen easier to prepare or store food. From the grapefruit knife, orange peeler, banana keeper, onion, tomato, and lemon keepers, the vast array of silicone collapsible measuring cups, to the angled measuring cup and adjust a cups, to name a few. Some of them we pick out of need, some of them just because they're cute, even if they just sit in our cabinet un-used.

I LOVE the invention pictured below (why didn't I think of it?), to me it is the greatest invention since sliced bread and canned Pepsi. It's the Seal-O-Matic. How many times have you lost the twist tie for the loaf of bread, or put a rubber band around the brown sugar? I can safely say, many! But this handy gadget seals them for you. Try it, you'll like it.

And no kitchen would be complete without the cordless telephone. Not any phone will do, it must be cordless phone. Come on, we all know, cooking in the kitchen goes hand-in-hand with talking on the telephone. Inevitably the moment you are elbow deep in cooking, the phone rings and you feel compelled to answer it, or you have to call someone to get a recipe you can't find, which turns into; what are you doing?, she did what?, with who?, your kidding?, how's the kids?

Take a peek at some of the first kitchens and early inventions.
Dish - I had a chance to attend sneak preview last night of the movie: "The Secret Life of Bees", tickets were compliments of http://fm107.fm/. The movie is based off the novel written by Sue Monk Kidd, released in 2002. It is about mothers and daughters and the women in our lives who become our true mothers. But it doesn't stop there, it touches on segregation, abuse, love, hate, betrayal and friendship. It is funny, sad, heartwarming, up-lifting, and the casts not to bad to look at either. Although at times it was a bit slow, I enjoyed the story line and the actors ability to effectively portray it. It is a must see movie!
Ohio has nothing on us -- Minnesota has our own "Joe the plumber!"
Embellish - Life is a flower of which love is the honey. Make it a "sweet" day!
